Eukaryotic Microbes Lecture Materials

These are the Eukaryotes: Meet the Microbes Lecture materials of the Virtual Microbiology Classroom. The resources below are used to supplement an actual college microbiology course. Anyone taking, teaching or interested in biology may find these materials helpful and is welcome to use them.

The Eukaryotic Microbes lecture materials include:

  • a list of learning objectives
  • a PowerPoint lecture
  • practice test questions
  • review questions
  • links to additional educational resources

EUKARYOTIC MICROBES LECTURE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
These lecture learning objectives are  a study guide based on the VMC Eukaryotes: Meet the Microbes Lecture PowerPoint:

  • Know which groups of microscopic eukaryotes cause disease in humans, and which do not.
  • Know the different eukaryotic microorganisms that were presented in the lecture PPT, and any information about specific representative genera or species that was detailed, such as GiardiaEntamoeba histolyticaBlastomyces dermatitidisAspergillus fumigatus & Hookworms.
  • Know, and be able to distinguish between, the four main categories of mycoses.
  • How are fungal infections commonly transmitted, and how well do we understand their prevalence?
  • What is the difference between true and opportunistic fungal pathogens. Be able to name the four true fungal pathogens.
  • What are helminths? Why are these comparatively large microbes studied by microbiologists?

EUKARYOTIC MICROBES LECTURE POWERPOINT
All of the lecture PowerPoints used in the Virtual Microbiology Classroom have fill-in-the-blanks on many of the slides to encourage students to pay attention and follow along during the presentation. Instructors, contact us for the information that goes in the blanks.

HELPFUL TIPS: Some of the PowerPoint presentations are large files and may take a few moments to download, depending on the speed of your internet connection. If you are printing a hard copy of the PowerPoint, you can save paper by selecting Handouts (rather than Slides) in the "Print What:" drop down menu of the PPT print screen. Then you can choose the number of slides you want to have on each printed page. If the printed PPT presentation is to be used as student notes, it is best to choose handouts with 2 or 3 slides per page.

EUKARYOTIC MICROBES PRACTICE TEST QUESTIONS
Practice test questions designed to help you better understand the material from this lecture. They are based on information in the Eukaryotes: Meet the Microbes PowerPoint Lecture.

EUKARYOTIC MICROBES REVIEW QUESTIONS
Questions designed to help you review the material in the Eukaryotes: Meet the Microbes Lecture.
