Two main subdisciplines of this science are inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry. Inorganic chemistry is the science of substances that do not contain carbon-hydrogen (C-H) bonds; organic chemistry is all about C-H bonds and the chemicals made by living organisms.

How Do I Use This Site?
What Is Chemistry? \ke-mə-strē\

"A science that deals with the composition, structure, and properties of substances and with the transformations that they undergo." – Merriam Webster Dictionary.
Inorganic Chemistry
Inorganic chemistry the branch of chemistry concerned with the elements and all their compounds except those containing carbon-hydrogen bonds. Science Prof Online has many article on inorganic chemistry, including the topics of acids, bases & salts; pH scale; diffusion & concentration gradient, and osmosis & tonicity.

Organic Chemistry
Organic chemistry is the branch of chemistry that focuses on compounds that contain carbon-hydrogen bonds, many of which are large molecule compared to the size of inorganic molecules. Organic molecules originally consisted only of those produced by living organisms, but now also include man-made carbon-based substances such as plastics.

Science Prof Online has many article on organic chemistry, including the four main groups of organic molecules: carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and the monomers that these large polymer molecules are composed of.
